Failure Analysis of Belt Conveyor Components

In the process of operation, failure of belt conveyor is inevitable, here PK Machinery will analyze the cause of belt conveyor failure.
1.Belt doesn’t rotate 
After start-up of the belt conveyor motor, the belt of drive pulley idles and slips, belt can’t rotate, this failure is caused by insufficient belt tension, improper adjustment of tension device, overlong length, overloading start-up, coal piled in the tail part of belt conveyor.
2. Belt is easy to break 
It is due to the large belt tension loose joint, poor quality of belt buckle, belt using for a long time, poor maintenance of belt, the solution is to tighten tension device, lower the tension ,change the new belt in time and strengthen the maintenance quality.
3. Reducer occurs abnormal sound.
The reason is due to the larger gap caused by serious wear of bearing and gear or screw is too loose, the solution is to replace the bearing, adjust the gap and repair or replace the whole reducer.
4.Reducer heats up too fast.
The reason is because of too much oil, poor heat dissipation performance, speed reducer is buried in coal pile, the solution is to adjust oil amount and remove the coal.

5.Reducer oil leakage.
The reason is due to the damage of sealing ring, the connecting surface of reducer is not uneven, the bolt is too loose, the solution is to replace the sealing ring, tighten the connecting surface and the bearing cap bolts.

 

6.Roller doesn’t rotate.
It is because of the damage of roller bearing, when coal powder enters into the roller sealing ring on both sides, it will be blocked and not rotate which makes the roller bend due to the large stress. The solution is replacement roller, reduce the height of discharging point and the landing point, or use the shock-proof roller at the landing point.

The Selection of Corrugated Sidewall Conveyor Belt

Corrugated sidewall belt is used for pulling and carrying purposes for corrugated sidewall conveyor. It consists of a baseband, corrugated sidewall and baffle. The corrugated sidewall connects with both sides of baseband while the baffle connects with both side of corrugated wall accordingly to a certain space.
1. Baseband 
The baseband appearance of corrugated sidewall belt is the same with ordinary belt ,but its lateral stiffness is greater than ordinary belt. Usually corrugated sidewall belt adopts special belt as its baseband, the tensile materials (core layer) can be divided into four kinds: cotton canvas, nylon canvas, polyester canvas and steel wire.
2. Corrugated sidewall
This series of products using S-type of corrugated sidewall.
3. Baffle
a) This series of product is recommended to use type T, type TS (B), type TC, type TCS (B) and type C baffles.
b) Type T and type TS (B) baffles are only suitable for conveyor angle β≤40 ° while type TC and type TCS (B) and type C of baffles are suitable for conveyors with any transmission angle.
c) Type C baffle is suitable for conveying viscous materials. On the other hand, if the conveying angle and material density are greater, then type TCS (b) baffle should be used.
d) The spacing between baffles is integral multiple of waveform of the corrugated sidewall. The spacing between baffles (TS) and height (H) are related to conveying angle β.  

What Should We Note During the Installation of Large Angle Belt Conveyor

Large angle belt conveyor can be transported with large inclination , it even can be vertical. It adopts sidewall belt as the main part. The advantages are: large conveying amount, small space occupation ,small noise etc. which is widely used for conveying powder, blocked material. Here PK Machinery will introduce the installation notes during installation:
1.Check whether the components of large angle belt conveyor are complete or not
Generally speaking, belt conveyor includes lots of components: head & tail frame, concave & convex segmental arc frame and middle frame, however, the quantity of trough roller frame, rollers and sealing cover is big, you need to check carefully and guarantee the components are transported to the right place.
2.Installation, positioning and welding of head and tail frame, concave and convex segmental arc frame
First of all, please find the center line of the belt conveyor by using a steel wire. When installation, please make the head & tail frame, concave & convex segmental arc frame subject to the center line.

 

3.Check belt running and adjust the belt if it runs off tracking
After installation of belt, trough roller, self-aligning roller and vertical roller, connect the power supply , run the belt and adjust the belt offset distance .
4.Installation of large dip Angle belt conveyor accessories and bolts
After adjusting the belt, you can start to install the sealing cover, head cover and fastening bolts.

Installation and Notes of Belt Conveyor Anti-rain Cover

1) Open cover and fixed cover are manufactured with the galvanized steel plate or the colorized coating steel plate. Generally ,there will be 1 piece of open cover and 7 pieces of fixed covers installed every 8 pieces covers, the 2 kinds covers also can be installed side by side alternately ( it also can be matched according to customer’s requirement). At first, fasten the fixed conveyor with drilling rivets and based on the line which is upward 30mm from the top of Z type steel, fix a mounting hole every 450mm, every piece of cover overlaps 2 wave crests. Open cover overlaps above the fixed covers in order to open conveniently.

2) The Z type steel or the connection angle iron which is the main support frame of the conveyor cover, the length is equal to the length of the installed conveyor cover
The Z type steel or the connection angle iron is welded on the channel steel or the little stiffening angle iron on both sides of the conveyor

3) Install the covers (fixed covers) from one side to another side along the conveyor, during installation, people are not allowed to stand on the covers and no hard beating and hitting is allowed.
4) Mount the fixed covers on the Z type steel with the drilling rivet. The mounting points are not less than 4 on every piece.

5) 1 piece of observation window cover could be installed every 10 pieces for convenient checking and inspecting. It is decided by users.

6) Salient point cover is only used for the salient points of the convex-concave of the conveyor. Deviation switch cover is only used for covering the deviation switch. These 2 kinds covers also can overlap the fixed covers.

4. Note

1) During the installation, please handle the anti-rain cover carefully and avoid scratching.

2) After installing the accessories, please clean the surface and paint the scratched points again.

How to Solve Portable Belt Conveyor Belt Skid Problem

Portable belt conveyor is a lightweight continuous conveying equipment with the features of high efficiency, good mobility, and convenient usage. 1.You can adjust the stroke of tension to increase the tension to solve belt skid problem for the portable conveyor which adopts screw or hydraulic tensioning . However ,if the stroke of tension is not enough, it may lead to permanent belt deformation ,and you need to cut a piece of belt off and vulcanize again. 

2.If you require long stroke of tension when using nylon or EP belt, you can also vulcanize the belt or increase the stroke of tension to solve belt skip problem.

Type Introduction and Maintenance of Conveyor Belt Rollers

A conveyor belt is the carrying medium of a belt conveyor system (often shortened to belt conveyor). A belt conveyor system is one of many types ofconveyor systems. A belt conveyor system consists of two or more pulleys(sometimes referred to as drums), with an endless loop of carrying medium—the conveyor belt—that rotates about them. One or both of the pulleys are powered, moving the belt and the material on the belt forward. The powered pulley is called the drive pulley while the unpowered pulley is called the idler pulley. There are two main industrial classes of belt conveyors; Those in general material handlingsuch as those moving boxes along inside a factory and bulk material handlingsuch as those used to transport large volumes of resources and agricultural materials, such as grain, salt, coal, ore, sand, overburden and more.

Belt conveyor roller is an important part of belt conveyor. It accounts for a total cost of 35% of a belt conveyor, suffered more than 70% of the resistance. So the quality of roller is particularly important.

The role of roller is to support the belt conveyor and the weight of material. Roller must be flexible and reliable operation. Today there are many types of rollers as follows:

1.Trough rollers
The standard tough angle of trough roller is 35 degrees, so most of conveyors use 35 degrees trough rollers and 35 degrees trough bend forward rollers.

2.Impact rollers
Impact roller angle includes 35 and 45 degrees, when using the canvas conveyor belt, only the 35 degrees tough impact roller can be selected. groove rollers. 45 degrees trough impact roller can be used in the section where the guide chute will not be affected by material impact .

3.Transition rollers
Transition roller is used for belt conveyor with large capacity, long distance and large conveyor belt tension.

4.Return rollers
Return roller is also called below parallel roller, it is also the most used one kind of the roller.

5.Self-aligning rollers

Self-aligning roller includes ordinary self-aligning roller, friction self-aligning roller and tapered self-aligning roller. cone-shape self-aligning roller. Self-aligning roller is applied to automatically correct excessive running deviation appeared in the process of operation to guarantee the normal work of belt conveyor.

6.Maintenance
Since rollers occupies large quantity of belt conveyor parts, so for belt conveyorrollers, maintenance is particularly important. During the process of using, please keep the belt conveyor roller working in a dry environment, change the damaged roller in time and keep the roller surface clean.
